England international and recent Everton signing Izzy Christiansen is starry-eyed for the Merseyside club.
In her most recent interview, the midfielder has opened up on her new-found love for football since rejoining Everton and admits she cannot wait to get started once the new season begins.
Christiansen joined the Toffees in December from European giants Olympique Lyonnais. Her arrival on Merseyside is her second stint with the club, the first coming in 2008 before she moved to Birmingham City after just one season.
“Willie Kirk was one of the main reasons I wanted to join Everton,” the Lioness told the club. Manager Kirk has made big waves since signing for the Blues in 2018, marking his first match in charge with a victory over rivals Liverpool.
Will Everton qualify for Europe next season?
“He’s been a really positive influence on me so far and I’ve only been at the Club for five months,” Christiansen continued. “And after many phone calls during the lockdown with Willie and [assistant manager] Chris Roberts, as well as our technical and analysis teams, I have found my love for football has grown even more.”
At 28, it’s likely that the England international could spend her last years at the club where it all started. Christiansen kicked off her senior career with the Toffees after graduating from Manchester United’s Centre of Excellence. Judging from her excitement to get started in blue again, there isn’t anywhere else the Lioness would rather be.
“I’m in a really good place and I’m excited for next season,” the playmaker said. Christiansen didn’t make an appearance for her new club this season but is ready and raring to push on once the 2020/21 campaign begins.
England’s top flight of women’s football, the Women’s Super League, was recently called to an early end due to current events (via BBC Sport). Officials are still deciding on a way to calculate this season’s standings.
