Mason Holgate has given an interview with the club ahead of the resumption of the 2019/20 Premier League season.
After more than two months out of action, the Blues are gearing up and preparing for their return to the turf on the big stage. Carlo Ancelotti’s side will face off against runaway leaders Liverpool in their first match back.
Rising star Holgate has given his thoughts ahead of the upcoming Merseyside derby and says that despite the tough circumstances, the team wants to win.
Will Mason Holgate be the future Everton captain?
“We have nine games and all we need to concentrate on is trying to win them. We are going to need the entire squad,” the 23-year-old told Everton’s official website. The Toffees are currently 12th in the league table but just six points behind sixth place Wolves. They will be pushing to make an impact upon their return to the top flight.
“We are a team and know these games will come thick and fast,” Holgate continued. “We will need each other.”
The centre-back has become a go-to option for Ancelotti this season and fans have been equally as impressed with him. When the England youth international penned a new five-year deal earlier this year, a lot of Blues were singing his praises, with one fan tipping him to be the ‘future Everton captain’.
When discussing the idea of playing the remaining matches in front of empty stadiums, Holgate said: “It is still a game of football and it is up to us to get our heads around it.
“Of course, it will be strange at first and we’ll miss our fans but the players will be fine with it because we just want to win.”
