Everton: Mason Holgate being monitored by Nottingham Forest - Everton News

Everton defender Mason Holgate is being monitored by Nottingham Forest ahead of a potential move, according to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett.

The Lowdown: Out of favour

Forest are currently hovering above the relegation zone after a mixed start to the season with the need for reinforcements clear, and it sounds like they have identified Holgate as a target.

The Toffees centre-back’s contract at Goodison Park isn’t set to expire until 2025, but after significantly falling down the pecking order under Frank Lampard, an exit could now be on the cards.

The Latest: Dorsett’s update

Taking to Twitter, Dorsett revealed that Holgate is being closely watched by Forest, with Steve Cooper’s side contemplating making an approach before the end of the window. He wrote:

“#nffc considering #efc Mason Holgate as one of a number of options to strengthen their defence.

“Holgate hasn’t played a Premier League game under manager Frank Lampard since August.

“Forest have been approached about numerous players, but may have to offload fringe players first.”

The Verdict: Sell alongside Keane…

Michael Keane has also been heavily linked with a departure and Holgate could be about to follow in his footsteps to be the next to leave Merseyside.

Sam Carroll previously dubbed the defender ‘Mr Dependable’, but after making just three starts this term, it’s clear that he’s recently failed to make the impact he once did.

Everton letting Holgate go would be completely the right decision, and sanctioning this move is certainly the best option for both parties.
