Everton have 'watched' Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz in action ahead of a potential move to Merseyside, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

The Lowdown: Brereton Diaz continues to shine

The Chilean has continued to impress for Blackburn this season, scoring nine goals and chipping in with four assists for the Championship promotion hopefuls.

Brereton Diaz has been linked with a move to Everton recently, with the 23-year-old seen as someone who could add fresh quality to Frank Lampard's attack.

A recent claim from one journalist suggests that a move for the Blackburn dynamo to Goodison Park is not out of the question yet.

The Latest: Everton have 'watched' Brereton Diaz

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Crook claimed that Everton have tracked the progress of Brereton Diaz, although a move abroad currently feels more likely.

The talkSPORT man said in relation to the Toffees' interest in the Blackburn star:

"They’ve definitely watched Brereton Díaz a lot. Although I think the most likely outcome for him is that he signs a pre-contract agreement with a Spanish club and goes over there."

The Verdict: Feels unlikely

Brereton Diaz may be unproven at Premier League level but he could be a strong addition at Goodison Park, having scored four goals for Chile and netted 48 times in the Championship to date, not to mention being called 'amazing' by his former Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray in 2021.

Lampard is badly in need of someone who can provide competition for the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay this season, with the pair scoring just twice between them in 22 league appearances combined in 2022/23.

It does look as though a move to Spain could be on the cards for Brereton Diaz, though, and if Everton fail to snap him up, they must swiftly look elsewhere for a striker to sign in January instead.
