Everton could still sign Villarreal attacker Samuel Chukwueze, claims journalist Fraser Fletcher.

The Lowdown: Bid expected

It was reported earlier today that the Goodison Park outfit were expected to make a late bid for Chukwueze, with Villarreal prepared to accept a 'good offer' for the Nigeria international.

Of course, time is now running out for any late deals, but there could still be one last twist on Merseyside.

The Latest: Chukwueze 'still possible'

Taking to Twitter, Fletcher has revealed that a deal for Chukwueze is 'still possible' before the deadline, but it will be 'very, very tight':

"Latest I've been told - Chukwueze deal still possible for Everton. Been working with intermediaries in Spain to try to push through. Will be very, very tight."

The Verdict: Exciting

It is certainly exciting for the supporters to hear that they could still get a deal done so late on in the window, let alone one for the quality of player that Chukwueze is.

Hailed by ESPN journalist David Cartlidge as a ‘ridiculous’ player who ‘tortures’ defenders, he has even been compared to the legendary Arjen Robben for his ability to dribble at speed and cut in on his left foot.

In terms of his end product, the 23-year-old boasts an impressive 25 goals and 22 assists for Villarreal, and a further four strikes for Nigeria (Transfermarkt).

Nonetheless, with striker Neal Maupay signed from Brighton and Hove Albion as well, the Toffees would feel like they would have enough cover for the injured Dominic Calvert-Lewin if they sign Chukwueze in the final minutes of the window.
