Everton have a 'growing interest' in signing Rennes striker Serhou Guirassy, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti

The lowdown: Everton interested in Guirassy

The Toffees have been extensively linked with a move for Guirassy this summer, with previous reports from France claiming that a move was 'close' earlier in the transfer window.

However, the 26-year-old remains in situ at the Ligue 1 outfit, for whom he has scored 25 times in 81 appearances since arriving from Amiens in 2020.

Despite the lack of activity following those earlier reports, now it appears as though the Goodison Park club are preparing to step up their efforts to bring Guirassy to the Premier League...

The latest: 'Growing interest'

Taking to Twitter, Galetti - a reporter for TV Dello Sport and Sky Sports, among others - claimed that Everton have a 'growing interest' in signing the three-cap Guinea international.

He stated: “#Everton are still looking for a new striker and in these last days there is growing interest in Serhou #Guirassy. A new contacts yesterday with #StadeRennais for the forward: the club could make an offer already in the next few hours. #EFC #Transfers”

The verdict: Do it

Following a lacklustre start to the 2022/23 campaign, Frank Lampard is in need of further attacking reinforcements in particular prior to the September 1 deadline, especially with Dominic Calvert-Lewin out injured.

As such, the Toffees have been linked with a move for Maxi Gomez, along with these fresh indications towards an imminent swoop for Guirassy.

The powerful Guinean scored 12 times and provided three assists in 48 appearances across all competitions last season, proof of a keen eye for goal and an impressive availability which would be welcomed to Lampard's ranks with open arms given Everton's frightening injury problems in recent months.

Sharing a close stylistic likeness with the likes of dominant frontmen such as Dusan Vlahovic, Gianluca Scamacca and Ciro Immobile (FBRef), the 6 foot 2 Guirassy seems ideally built to withstand the rigours of the English top flight.

Valued at £9m and under contract until 2025 (Transfermarkt), this should be a wholly affordable venture for Everton and one that the club should be doing everything to try and execute.
