Everton’s search for a new manager should land them with Sean Dyche, according to Stuart Pearce.

The Lowdown: Lampard on the brink

With their latest defeat on Saturday making it a third Premier League defeat in a row and eight consecutive games without a win for the Toffees, Frank Lampard was relieved of his duties.

Everton are now only off the foot of the table on goal difference and currently sit two points adrift of safety, with their wretched run dragging them into deep trouble on the pitch as their off-field situation worsens.

Only on Sunday did owner Farhad Moshiri claim it isn’t his decision to sack Lampard (via Sky Sports) amid more protests aimed at the board following the defeat to West Ham United.

The Latest: Pearce’s comments

Speaking prior to Lampard’s dismissal, former England defender Pearce told talkSPORT who we would hire as Lampard’s replacement, saying:

“For me it would be Sean Dyche, he looks a really natural fit.

“At this moment in time, there’s no part of Everton’s model that is unified or you think, ‘well, at least that part of the club’s okay’.

“They’re not playing particularly well, they’ve got no confidence, lot of pressure on the manager so he doesn’t feel free to manage, I’m sure.

“How are you going to stop this downward spiral? I don’t know, I think Sean Dyche has got the tools and the personality to do it.”

With Lampard’s stint at Everton not lasting a year, he won only 12 games, losing 24 of just 44 games in charge, averaging one point per game, according to Transfermarkt.

Given his record in Merseyside and limited management experience elsewhere, it could prove a good idea for Everton to roll the dice with Dyche.

The 51-year-old is yet to return to management following a near 10-year stay at Burnley as he led them to two Championship promotions as well as a five-year stay in the Premier League before leaving the club during the 2021/22 season before they were eventually relegated.

His heroics also included a seventh-place finish in what was their second season back in the top flight during the 2017/18 campaign, which saw them reach the Europa League qualifying round.

Following years of success and stability in Lancashire, Dyche’s reputation in England may well interest Moshiri and we think he would be a prime candidate to steer Everton to safety.
