Everton are set to include Neal Maupay and Idrissa Gueye in their squad for Saturday's Merseyside Derby against Liverpool.

The lowdown

Everton are due to face their local rivals in the 12.30 kick-off at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Maupay joined Everton from Brighton for a fee of £15million on 26 August but hasn't been able to make his debut for the Toffees yet.

The Toffees weren't able to register him in time for last weekend's clash with Brentford or the midweek game against Leeds.

Meanwhile, Everton paid Paris Saint-Germain £2million on Deadline Day to bring back Gueye for a second spell at the club.

The latest

The Liverpool Echo's Joe Thomas relayed the news on the new arrivals in a tweet on Friday.

"[Frank Lampard] says Gueye and Maupay will be in the squad for the derby," he wrote.

The verdict

Everton's injury situation ahead of their meeting with the Reds isn't looking particularly pretty.

Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Andros Townsend and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all been ruled out for various reasons (via Premier Injuries).

The integration of new signings is especially timely, then, but it remains to be seen whether Lampard throws Maupay straight into the starting line-up.

If he wants to start a recognised no. 9, it's a toss-up between Maupay and Salomon Rondon, but the former has yet to feature this season so his match-fitness may be limited.

Likewise, Gueye has not kicked a competitive ball since the new campaign got underway and might not be ready to start just yet.

Perhaps the manager will hope he can make an impact from the bench instead.
