Everton have enquired about the possibility of signing Christian Eriksen, according to Football London's Alasdair Gold. 

The lowdown

Eriksen is currently a free agent, having reached the end of his short-term contract with Brentford.

Brentford picked him up in January on a deal running until the end of the season after Serie A medical rules forced Inter Milan to terminate his contract (via The Athletic).

Everton boss Frank Lampard is intent on strengthening in central midfield during the transfer window, The Liverpool Echo's Christopher Beesley says.

Everton are named (via Football.London) as one of seven sides to make contact with Eriksen's camp, along with Brentford, Tottenham, Manchester United, Newcastle, Leicester City and West Ham.

The Dane is currently enjoying a post-season holiday and is yet to make a decision on his next move.

'There had been some suggestions' that Eriksen's priority is to stay to London, but he's said to be willing to play elsewhere.

The verdict

Eriksen impressed during his spell with the Bees, scoring one goal and providing four assists.

He's similar in style to Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne, who is only of only two Premier League players (along with Trent Alexander-Arnold) to better his record of 0.35 expected assists per 90 last season (min. five starts).

Intriguingly, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is said to have grown frustrated by the absence of a supply line at Goodison Park following the departures of Lucas Digne and James Rodriguez. Eriksen could help to fill that creative void, and potentially convince the striker to stay put.
