Everton could make up to three new signings before the 11pm transfer deadline, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Window so far…

The Toffees have been hard at work in the transfer market this summer after a disappointing 2021/22 campaign made it clear that reinforcements were a necessity ahead of the new Premier League season.

Frank Lampard’s side have so far secured the signatures of six new players, but with injuries to the likes of Ben Godfrey, Yerry Mina and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, a whole host of possible additions are expected to be negotiated before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

The Latest: Romano’s claim

Romano has shared an update regarding Everton’s transfer activity, claiming that there may be a few additions arriving at Goodison Park before the summer window shuts tonight – but this primarily depends on whether the exit-linked Anthony Gordon remains on Merseyside.

Speaking with GiveMeSport, the reliable journalist said: “It all depends on Gordon, because if they sell Gordon it will be different, they will need to make super important signings. If not, they will go for some smart names, but I see them being very busy, maybe making two or three signings before the deadline.”

The Verdict: Gordon too important…

Whilst a couple of new signings may be necessary for Lampard, Gordon’s departure from Goodison Park would require instant action from the club, as the 21-year-old has scored two of the three league goals to come from Everton players so far this term.

Furthermore, for an attacker, the England under-21 international plays a significant role in the Toffees' attempts to defend from the front.

As per FBRef, compared with positional peers across Europe over the past year, Gordon ranks in the top 1% for blocks, in the top three percent for tackles and in the top 4% for pressures - illustrating how hard he works across all areas of the field.

A few new signings could be expected today, but if Gordon does end up leaving, we may see a big name arrive through the door as his replacement.
