Rafael Benitez will not have the luxury of time at Everton, the club’s former full-back Michael Ball has warned.
Everton announced on Wednesday that Benitez has been appointed as manager, with owner Farhad Moshiri explaining his decision to bring in the ex-Liverpool boss on the club’s official website.
Given that history with Liverpool, Benitez’s appointment is a controversial one. Prior, some fans had made it clear that they did not want the Spaniard anywhere near Goodison Park.
Do Everton need Marcelo?
And now Ball has warned Benitez that time is not something he will get at the club.
“We’ve seen with Ronald Koeman, I think Ronald Koeman’s first year there was a very easy start, so our hopes were sort of high,” the ex-Everton player exclusively told TT.
“But the performances over time… form dipped and we had a difficult start to the following season and then he was out the door. He got given around about 18 months. Rafa Benitez won’t be given that time.”
Indeed, given how some fans feel towards Benitez, you can see this quickly turning ugly, especially if Everton get off to a bad start.
Fortunately, other than a clash against Manchester United at the beginning of October, they have some very favourable fixtures. It is something the new man in the Goodison Park dugout has to take advantage of.
