Everton: Toffees assessing Ben Brereton Diaz move in January

Everton: Toffees assessing Ben Brereton Diaz move in January -Everton News

Everton are assessing a potential move for Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Deadline Day bid

The Goodison Park outfit reportedly made a late attempt on Transfer Deadline Day to sign Brereton Diaz, but were rebuffed in their efforts.

Rovers would have seriously considered a bid in the region of £15-20m for the Chile international, but a deal never materialised in the end.

The Latest: January move?

As per Football Insider, the Merseyside club, as well as Leeds United, are now assessing the possibility of a January deal for Brereton Diaz, while Valencia, Villarreal, Celta Vigo and Real Sociedad are thought to be preparing pre-contract offers.

The 23-year-old’s deal runs out next summer, meaning that Rovers may consider selling him in January at the risk of letting him go on a free transfer.

The Toffees and Fulham each submitted their own offers for Brereton Diaz at the end of the summer window, but they were rejected by the Championship side.

The Verdict: Bargain

Given his contract situation, Brereton Diaz is likely to be available for a bargain price in January, and so it is a no-brainer for Frank Lampard’s team to try and get a deal done.

Hailed as a ‘beast’ by former Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray, six-foot-one goal machine struck an emphatic 22 times in the Championship last season, and already has four in nine games so far in this campaign (Transfermarkt).

Nonetheless, with the loss of Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur, Brereton Diaz would certainly add some much-needed firepower.
