Everton are reportedly 'showing interest' in Manchester United defensive midfielder James Garner.

The Lowdown: Out of favour

Off the back of a great season on loan at Nottingham Forest, Garner is back out of favour at Old Trafford.

The six-foot-one gem is yet to make an appearance for the Red Devils so far this term, and so they could look to move him on before the transfer window closes.

The Latest: Everton interest

Taking to Twitter, Italian football journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Goodison Park outfit, as well as Southampton, are 'showing interest' in Garner, adding that he is expected to leave United 'in the next days':

"Everton and Southampton are both showing interest in James Garner. No agreement/decision made, but he’s expected to leave Manchester United in the next days."

The Verdict: Prioritise a striker

Although Garner could be seen as a smart signing given his heroics at Forest last season as he helped them gain promotion up to the Premier League, the Merseyside club need to be prioritising signing a striker at this moment in time.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin out injured and Salomon Rondon lacking form, they are really missing firepower up top.

Garner has been hailed in particular for his ‘unbelievable‘ set piece delivery by former Forest teammate Ryan Yates, so would still be of great use to Frank Lampard's squad, but in truth that won't matter if they don't sign a striker to meet those deliveries.
