Everton are reportedly still 'in the race' to sign Villarreal winger Nicolas Jackson.

The Lowdown: Summer interest

It was reported back in August that the Goodison Park outfit were interested in signing Jackson, but a move never materialised in the summer transfer window.

In the end, they failed to recruit a right-winger, and with recent links to the likes of Shakhtar Donetsk's Mykhalo Mudryk and Napoli's Hirving Lozano, it seems as if they could look to revisit that in January.

The Latest: Newcastle join race

Taking to Twitter, journalist Pete O'Rourke has revealed that the Merseyside club are still 'in the race' for Jackson, who has a €32m (£28.6m) release clause, but fellow Premier League rivals Newcastle United have now joined them in trying to land his signature:

"Newcastle have joined Everton in the race to sign Villarreal attacker Nicolas Jackson. Jackson has impressed for Villarreal this season and has a €32m release clause in his contract."

The Verdict: Exciting signing

21-year-old Jackson would certainly be an exciting signing for Frank Lampard's side, should they be able to pull a deal off.

Since being promoted from Villarreal's B team, where he managed an impressive seven goals and eight assists in 27 games in total, the six-foot-one attacker has three goal contributions for the Yellow Submarine, including two in La Liga so far this season (Transfermarkt).

His performances recently earned him his first call-up to the Senegal national team squad, and he could well earn his first caps in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Nonetheless, Jackson shares the same agent as four Toffees, and so this should help push a deal in their favour come January.
