Everton have reportedly switched their focus to signing RB Salzburg defensive midfielder Mohamed Camara.

The Lowdown: Gueye off?

The re-signing of Idrissa Gueye from PSG seems to have hit a stumbling block, meaning that the Goodison Park outfit could now look elsewhere for another midfielder signing.

They have of course already signed Amadou Onana from Lille, on top of bringing in James Tarkowski, Ruben Vinagre and Dwight McNeil, but it seems one more body in the middle of the park is required.

The Latest: Camara interest

As per The Daily Mail, the Merseyside club have switched their focus to Camara after struggling to secure the signing of Gueye.

The 22-year-old is thought to be 'one of the best defensive midfielders emerging across Europe', and has even drawn comparisons with Chelsea's N'Golo Kante.

Camara is 'interested' in a move to the Toffees and linking up with Frank Lampard.

The Verdict: Great alternative

Camara would no doubt be a great alternative to Gueye, should the Blues be unable to bring their former player back.

Hailed as a 'brilliant' and 'exciting' player in Mali's midfield by journalist Bocsak Bence, he has scored three goals and made two assists in 15 senior appearances for his country, including playing twice at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) (Transfermarkt).

Camara has also played at a high level for Salzburg, featuring 13 times in the UEFA Champions League over the past two seasons.

He also shares the same agent as new signing McNeil, so this is a deal that could be pushed through.
