This is part of The Transfer Tavern’s Talking Tactics series, where we analyse two changes the manager should make in their upcoming fixture.

Everton are in desperate need of a win to give them some hope of staying up come the end of the Premier League season.

They have only managed to pick up the full three points on one occasion in the top flight since their 2-1 victory at home to Arsenal back in December, and really are in freefall, with Newcastle United at Goodison Park now looking like a must-win with some daunting league fixtures coming up.

Nonetheless, Frank Lampard simply has to get his team right, and we feel that there are two particular changes that he must make.

Calvert-Lewin starts

Speaking in his pre-game press conference ahead of the match, Lampard admitted that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will have to be 'assessed' after taking ill in their 1-0 loss at home to Wolves last time out.

If it is just a bug, then he should have time to recover, and if he is available, he simply needs to be thrown in from the start.

Calvert-Lewin has of course struggled with injuries this season, but his four league matches, and so the striker must be risked in the hope that he can get on the scoresheet.

Having missed out on the latest England squad as well, Calvert-Lewin is sure to have some extra fire in his belly, and so Lampard should unleash him from the start.

Coleman axed

Seamus Coleman has been a faithful servant and captain for the Toffees over a number of years, but now is the time for him to be ruthlessly dropped.

In truth, he has struggled massively of late, ranking among their three worst players against both Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur, with Jamie Carragher even going as far as to claim that he was part of a 'Championship back four' after the 5-0 drubbing away at the latter.

With Jonjoe Kenny suspended after getting a red card against the Wanderers, the right-back position should be filled by Nathan Patterson, an exciting young Scotland international who has barely had a kick since arriving from Glasgow Rangers in the January transfer window.

Coleman has been a great servant to the Blues, but at 33 years of age, his best days are sadly behind them.
