Everton will kick off their 2020/21 Premier League campaign against Tottenham this afternoon.
The Toffees have been busy in the transfer market in recent weeks, signing James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure. As such, they will be hoping for a notable improvement on their 12th-placed finish from last term.
They have a tough game to start, and Carlo Ancelotti will have plenty of decisions to make in terms of his team selection at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Here, we try to predict his starting XI.
In goal, expect Jordan Pickford to start. From his point of view, he had a positive international break, keeping two clean sheets for England, and he will be hoping to continue that form into the new season.
In defence, Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman are expected to start. Unfortunately, Mason Holgate is not fit to play this weekend, as confirmed by Ancelotti, so that should see Yerry Mina partner Michael Keane at the heart of the back four.
The midfield should see two fresh faces. James should start, perhaps taking up a place on the left whilst being allowed the freedom to move, and Allan should also come in alongside Andre Gomes. It may be too soon, however, for £20m signing Doucoure. On the right, Alex Iwobi should offer plenty of width.
Will Everton beat Tottenham this weekend?
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison were the Goodison Park outfit’s top scorers last season and Ancelotti will be hoping for plenty of the same this time around. As such, they should start up front.
