Everton are reportedly 'keen' on a move for PSV winger Cody Gakpo, who is 'likely' to leave in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Summer interest

The Goodison Park outfit's interest in Gakpo was first reported in the summer, along with a number of other clubs from the Premier League.

He has been nothing short of immense so far this season, with a whopping 10 goals and nine assists in just 13 games in total over all competitions (Transfermarkt), and is sure to attract plenty more interest once January comes.

The Latest: Everton 'remain keen'

Taking to Twitter, journalist Jacque Talbot has revealed that the Merseyside club 'remain keen' on Gakpo alongside fellow top-flight rivals Manchester United and Southampton, and a January move is 'likely', although PSV want a 'club-record' transfer fee for him:

"Hear Man United, Southampton and Everton remain keen on PSV forward Cody Gakpo and a move is likely during the January transfer window. Club reps will keep tabs over World Cup. Dutch side want club-record fee."

Expanding in his article for Football Transfers, Talbot adds that PSV's current club-record fee received for a player is the €45m (£39.7m) they got when Hirving Lozano went to Napoli, but Old Trafford is currently the 'most likely' destination for him.

The Verdict: Unlikely

Unfortunately for Frank Lampard's team, this seems like a deal that is now out of their reach.

Given the way Gakpo has exploded onto the scene this campaign, some top European sides are likely to come in for him in January, and so it could be hard for the Toffees to compete with them both financially and in terms of what they can offer the 23-year-old.

Gakpo may well want to play European football, having played in the UEFA Europa League with PSV this term, something the Blues cannot offer him at this moment in time.
