Transfer journalist Dean Jones has questioned whether David Moyes could replace Frank Lampard at Everton.

The Lowdown: Both under pressure

Both Moyes and Lampard have not started off the season well with West Ham United and Everton respectively, with both teams just one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League.

They have also been knocked out of the Carabao Cup, as one realistic chance of lifting silverware at the end of the campaign is already gone for both sides.

There have been reports of both Moyes and Lampard being under pressure at their respective clubs, and if results do not improve, both could well face the chop.

The Latest: Moyes back at Everton?

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has asked if it is 'impossible' to see Moyes return to Goodison Park, given his and Lampard's current situations:

“Obviously Lampard is still there for the time being, we don’t know how long that is going to drag out for.

But I’d consider too, David Moyes’ situation isn’t certain at West Ham, is it impossible for him to return to Everton? I’m sure after everything the fans have been through, there are some that might even welcome him back.

The Verdict: Would be a shock

It would be a shock if Moyes were to leave the Hammers and join a fellow top-flight rival struggling near the bottom of the table, let alone one of his former clubs in the Toffees.

The Scotsman spent a grand total of 12 years at the Blues, with one of his biggest achievements being guiding them to a very impressive fourth-place finish in the Premier League in the 2004/05 term, as well as three other finishes inside the top six (Transfermarkt).

He also got them to the final of the FA Cup in the 2008/09 season (Transfermarkt), and some supporters have called for his return in the past.

However, the thought of Moyes going back to Everton at this moment in time does seem a little far-fetched.
