Everton want to sign out-of-favour Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic on loan in January, according to reports in Spain.
Real paid in excess of £50million to sign Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of the 2019/20 season.
But the move has been a failure, with the Serbian limited to a mere six starts in La Liga since he joined.
In all competitions he’s made 36 appearances for Real and scored just twice.
Having spent time back on loan at Frankfurt last season, he’s played only 32 minutes under Carlo Ancelotti so far this term.
While it hasn’t panned out for him in Madrid however, he clearly has plenty of talent, with the great Lionel Messi hailing him as a ‘magical’ talent who ‘makes the impossible possible’.
According to Defensa Central‘s ‘sources very close to the team’, Jovic’s is on Everton’s list ahead of the transfer window.
They’re set to propose a loan that runs until the end of the season and would agree to cover the entirety of Jovic’s salary.
The Serbian has given an ‘invitation’ to leave Los Blancos in search of regular gametime.
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Salomon Rondon all on their books, Everton don’t need to be taking on Jovic’s wages in the hope he’ll rediscover his scoring touch – if one of the former two names were to be poached by a huge club, then perhaps that would change.
Jovic thrived in a front two when he was at Frankfurt, playing alongside Sebastien Haller. He probably needs to find a club where he can slot back into that system, and that club isn’t Everton, who typically depend on Calvert-Lewin as their out-and-out star number nine.
