Everton have been linked with young centre-back Dael Fry ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to a report from 90min (via Sportslens), the Blues have been admiring the 22-year-old and are seeking to bring him to Goodison Park in the upcoming business window. It has been revealed that Middlesbrough are ready to listen to offers in the region of £20m for the Englishman.
Fry has never played higher than the Championship in his senior career and a move to a side like Everton could be the perfect opening into a Premier League era. The Blues are very much under an exciting transition with Carlo Ancelotti, who is putting trust and confidence in the younger Evertonians.
Fry fits the criteria of a young and upcoming player to help take the Merseyside outfit to new heights. He would also link up well with Mason Holgate in the heart of the defence, helping to reconstruct the backline.
Everton have leaked 46 goals in the Premier League this season, a statistic which the 22-year-old could help to rectify. As observed by Sofascore, Fry’s strong suit is ground duels, which will be a great asset to relieve the pressure on an inconsistent Jordan Pickford in goal. The centre-half has also kept eight clean sheets this season with Boro and averages 5.2 clearances per game.
Holgate seems to be Ancelotti’s first choice centre-back moving forward and a defender like Fry to accompany him would be ideal for a side looking to re-establish themselves as a major player in the league. For a young player like the Englishman who is yet to feature on the Premier League stage, this kind of opportunity isn’t one that he’s likely to squander – Fry could well take a chance like this and run with it to prove his worth in the top flight.
Able to feature as both a left and right centre-back, the Boro man can adapt and fill whichever side his defensive partner cannot. For just £20m, Everton should seriously look into acquiring Fry’s services this summer as he could prove to be a vital asset in the club’s growth.
