Darren Bent has backed Carlo Ancelotti to complete more transfer business for Everton in the January window.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa striker believes that the Italian boss will look to increase his options in attack in case they lose the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, James Rodriguez or Richarlison:
“I don’t mind Bernard, I think he’s OK. At times in certain situations, [he] looks good.
“You know what you’re going to get with Alex Iwobi. He works hard, tries really hard but the quality, unfortunately, is not there in the final third.
“When you do lose Richarlison or Dominic Calvert-Lewin or James Rodriguez, the replacements aren’t there yet.
“That’s maybe an area that Ancelotti will have to look at.
“Listen, if you had offered them where they are at the minute at the start of the season, they would have snapped your hand off.”
Ancelotti should be happy with his forward line
Indeed, Ancelotti should be happy with his current first-choice forward line of Calvert-Lewin, Rodriguez and Richarlison.
Will Ancelotti stay at Everton for the long-term?
Between the three stars so far in the 2020/21 term (stats taken before the game versus Newcastle United), they have scored no fewer than 17 goals, and as such, they have all been heavily instrumental to the Goodison Park faithful’s great start to the season.
Ancelotti needs to demand more from his back-up forwards
Indeed, Ancelotti needs to figure out how to get more out of his back-up forward players should any of his front three receive an injury or a suspension for a sustained period of time.
In sheer contrast to Calvert-Lewin, Rodriguez and Richarlison, Iwobi, Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson have only managed to score a mere three goals between them in 19 combined appearances so far in this campaign (Transfermarkt).
Will Ancelotti go into the January market?
The manager may begin to lose his patience with his players as the January transfer window edges ever closer, and so Bent has predicted that he may go into the market for a new forward or two to really provide some competition for his favoured front three.
