Everton: Fans lap up reports that James Rodriguez reportedly signed for free

Many Everton fans have been reacting to a piece of transfer news coming from Banfield, a football club for whom James Rodriguez has previously played, as their treasurer Igancio Uzquiza has claimed that his transfer from Real Madrid was for free.
According to his comments (translated from Spanish):
“Unfortunately, because of James Rodriguez’s pass from Real Madrid to Everton to Banfield, no money is due. The transaction was made at no cost, as if it were a free player. The pertinent consultations have already been made to the two clubs involved and to the corresponding organisations. In all cases they confirmed to us that the club will not receive money as a solidarity mechanism.”
Indeed, it is a quite the coup from Carlo Ancelotti’s team if indeed they have managed to bring the Colombian international to Goodison Park on a free transfer from Zinedine Zidane’s side.
The current market value of Rodriguez is £28.8m (as per Transfermarkt) and so getting him for free now looks like an absolute steal, if indeed that is the case.
Will Rodriguez be a success at Everton?
Yes

No

The 29-year old is a statement signing from the Toffees given his previous pedigree in world football, as he has two Champions League titles as well as several other major trophies to his name (via Transfermarkt).
These Everton supporters on Twitter lapped up the claim, with one fan remarking that the business to get Rodriguez in on a free is ‘incredible’ and another describing it as a feather in the cap of director of football Marcel Brands:
