Many Everton fans have been lauding Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as the Daily Mail reported that the Merseyside club are set to battle it out with Tottenham Hotspur for the Southampton ace’s signature in the upcoming summer transfer window.
As per the outlet, the Saints are demanding a fee of £35 million to sign him up, as the central midfield player only has a year left on his current deal.
Is Hojbjerg worth £35 million?
Spurs are apparently willing to offer Kyle Walker-Peters, who is on loan at St. Mary’s at the moment, plus some cash to fund a possible move, but the Toffees would just offer a fee.
Comparing the stats of the 24-year old to those of Fabian Delph, Tom Davies and Andre Gomes in the Premier League so far in the 2019/20 season, Hojbjerg averages more tackles, interceptions, clearances, shots and key passes per game, according to Whoscored.
These are arguably key areas for a midfielder in the middle of the park, and the Danish international excels in all of them.
These EFC supporters lauded Hojbjerg on Twitter, with one member of the Goodison Park faithful even claiming that he could be the ‘future captain’ of the Blues given that he was the skipper of the Saints before being replaced by James Ward-Prowse. Meanwhile another suggested they should swap him for Theo Walcott, who has under performed at Everton this term and is of course a former Southampton player:
people are gonna complain but I think it’s a good signing, probably a future captain

If Brands and Ancelotti want him, then that is good enough for me

Swap for Walcott

Hard working, high energy & quality! Carlo says yes.. so do I! 🇮🇹💯

I’d take him but there’s no way they’d get that much for a player with 1 year left on his contract.

Definitely would have him and with the player openly stating he’s going I’m sure the club could drive that price down to something between £15-20m! Would he come though? Whilst staying he’s leaving he said he wants a titles & CL challenging club…
