Plenty of Everton fans are lauding the transfer news coming from Duncan Castles (via The Gwladys Street) that the Merseyside club are at a more advanced stage than Napoli in terms of negotiating for the signature of Gabriel, as the Italian team have not yet made a firm bid for the central defender.
Carlo Ancelotti is looking to sign a centre-back in the upcoming summer transfer window as they only have three recognised ones in their current senior squad at the moment with Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina.
Comparing the stats of Gabriel to these centre-halves in their respective domestic leagues in the 2019/20 season, the 22-year old has averaged more blocks and passes per game, and also has a higher overall average rating (6.93), according to Whoscored.
Should Everton sign Todibo over Gabriel?
His unrivalled ability to get his body in the way of shots and pick out his teammates with passes could be vital for Ancelotti to make his final decision on Gabriel, as the LOSC Lille ace could well be heading to the Premier League.
These EFC supporters lauded the news on Twitter:
Hope we get this lad

Absolutely, best of all the defenders we have been linked with. He is aggressive which is exactly what we need

IF he’s the player we all hope he is,
then having the option to play Gabriel & Coleman
will bring more from both.
