Lots of Everton fans have been reacting as Paul Joyce revealed on his Twitter page that the Merseyside club are set to sign Niels Nkounkou.
As per The Times journalist, the teenager is set to sign after turning down a new deal with Olympique Marseille, where he has spent the last two years. Nkounkou plays as a left-back but can also move to midfield and is set to move to Goodison Park on a free transfer.
The 19-year old is expected to train with the first team under Carlo Ancelotti but it is likely that he will play in the under-23’s side managed by David Unsworth.
Despite some excitement on Twitter over the Frenchman’s impending capture, one Everton supporter pondered “Does this mean Baines isn’t going to sign”, as the 35-year old has been offered a new contract but has not chosen to sign it as of yet.
Should Baines sign a new deal at Everton?
Given his age and the fact that Nkounkou plays in the same position, perhaps it is feasible to suggest that the Englishman may be moved on in the summer.
These Toffees reacted to the update from Joyce, with some fairly mixed responses:
What's the point, these type of signings never emerge from the Under 23s.
