Many Everton fans have reacted to an update on transfer target Gabriel Magalhaes as L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) reported that Lille president Gerard Lopez has revealed that the defender’s future will be decided very soon.
As per the outlet, Lopez confirmed:
“We have other offers on other players, but we haven’t spoken to their players. With Gabriel, we are talking and we’ve given him an exit pass. He will choose his club this week”.
However, the publication also pointed out that Napoli are ahead of the Merseyside club in the race to sign the 22-year old in the summer transfer window.
Nevertheless, if Carlo Ancelotti’s team can beat the Italian side to his signature, then it would arguably be a shrewd signing for the Toffees based off of his stats compared to other central defenders at Goodison Park.
Should Carlo Ancelotti sign Gabriel for Everton?
Gabriel averaged more tackles and passes than Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina in their respective domestic leagues in the 2019/20 season, while also achieving the highest rating on Whoscored. Indeed, the Brazilian could be quite the coup if the Blues could get a deal over the line.
However, these Everton supporters on Twitter seemed sceptical as to whether they would be able to sign Gabriel, given that Napoli are also apparently in the race for his services:
