Everton could now miss out on signing linked summer target Wendel due to work permit problems.
In a report from Area Napoli (via Sport Witness), it has been revealed that despite the Blues’ interest in bringing the Brazilian to Merseyside, legalities may not allow it. According to the Italian outlet, it is unlikely that Wendel will be able to get a work permit to play in the Premier League. This could be due to the fact that he has no senior caps for the Brazilian national team and doesn’t hold an EU passport.
Who would you rather have in goal: Jonas Lossl or Jordan Pickford?
Sporting Lisbon are reportedly asking for €20m (£17.7m) to hand over the midfielder and rejected an initial bid of £13m from the Toffees (per Plataforma via Express). Carlo Ancelotti’s former side Napoli are also in the running for Wendel and this could be the boost they need in order to get their man this summer.
Everton have struggled in the middle of the park this season, with only two goals and two assists coming from their midfield this entire Premier League campaign (via Transfermarkt). If their pursuit of Wendel is unsuccessful, the Blues must quickly shift their focus onto another playmaker if they want to ensure that they fully utilise the summer window and best prepare themselves for the 2020/21 season.
