Not interested in Rudiger
Rudiger looked certain to leave Chelsea, with both Tottenham and the Toffees apparently interested in the 27-year-old Germany international. However, in the end, he stayed put at Stamford Bridge, with Carlo Ancelotti instead bringing in Ben Godfrey from Norwich City.
Everton apparently checked in with the Blues, but were put off by the price Chelsea set to take the player on a season-long loan. They wanted a £5m flat fee, whilst they also asked interested parties to pay the former AS Roma man’s £150,000-a-week wages.
Not worth the risk for Ancelotti
Rudiger may be a big name, and with 35 international caps, he is certainly trusted by Germany manager Joachim Low, but this deal would have made little sense to the Toffees. After all, the £27m-valued 27-year-old – as per Transfermarkt – was part of a side that conceded 54 goals in the Premier League last term.
Would you liked to have signed Rudiger?
Last season, he managed a WhoScored rating of just 6.78 in the league, and the fact he has not played a single minute this season in five top-tier matches shows that he is not really in Frank Lampard’s plans. Given how Everton are doing at the moment, this clearly looks to have been the right decision.
