# Everton: Greg O’Keeffe lauds former Toffee Steven Naismith for cutting his wages

**Recent developments have achieved the impossible and thrown football of all things into the second plan, forcing leagues across the world to freeze until the situation hopefully improves.**

Of course, as of right now, no one can say for sure when that’s actually going to happen but just the willingness to finish the ongoing 2019/20 campaign is a good starting point for everyone.

But with half of the globe basically on a forced holiday, regardless of whether they can afford to take it or not, some players have decided to take a cut in their wages in order to help their employers stay afloat in these times where profit and revenue are in danger.

One such player was a former Everton and current Hearts man, Steven Naismith, and he quickly drew the praise of Greg O’Keeffe, The Athletic’s Everton correspondent.

The journalist shared his story and called it a fantastic gesture in the process as well.

Naismith was one of the Toffees from 2012 until 2016 when he moved to Norwich.

***Everton fans, what did you think of Naismith’s gesture? Should more players follow his example? Let us know down in the comments below!***
