# Everton: Idrissa Gueye backed to help Toffees dominate opponents

**[Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) would be able to dominate opponents in the middle of the park if Frank Lampard were to select Idrissa Gueye in the spine alongside two box-to-box runners, according to journalist Paul Brown.**

### **The Lowdown: Midfield options**

The Toffees began the season with Abdoulaye Doucoure at the base of their midfield, having played the[full 90 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/abdoulaye-doucoure/leistungsdaten/spieler/127187/plus/0?saison=2022) in their opening [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) fixture against Chelsea.

However, the 29-year-old suffered a [hamstring injury](https://www.evertonfc.com/teams/injuries-and-suspensions) and was substituted early in the following week’s defeat at Aston Villa and has been absent from Frank Lampard’s matchday squads [ever since](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/abdoulaye-doucoure/leistungsdaten/spieler/127187/plus/0?saison=2022).

As a result, the Everton boss turned to the transfer market for possible additions, with the club bringing in [Gueye](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11170053/Everton-confirm-signing-Idrissa-Gana-Gueye-undisclosed-fee-Paris-Saint-Germain.html) from Paris Saint-Germain and [Amadou Onana](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62432408) from Lille in a deal worth £33m.

Brown believes that, with Gueye returning as the team’s central defensive midfielder, the likes of Doucoure and Onana would form a brilliant midfield trio for Everton.

Speaking with [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88057257-everton-lampard-can-dominate-teams-with-trio-at-goodison-park), the reliable journalist claimed: “I think if you started with Gueye and with two runners, like Doucoure and Onana, who can get forward but also do some of the donkey work, I think that would be a really powerful midfield that is capable of dominating a lot of teams.”

The former PSG man is no stranger to life in an Everton shirt.
