# Everton: Media praise Jordan Pickford vs Liverpool

**Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has earned huge plaudits for his performance in Saturday’s Merseyside Derby against Liverpool.**

### The lowdown

Pickford made his sixth start of the season for Frank Lampard’s side [to maintain his 100% Premier League appearance record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordan-pickford/leistungsdaten/spieler/130164).

[The only game he’s missed so far](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordan-pickford/leistungsdaten/spieler/130164) was the Carabao Cup second-round tie against Fleetwood Town.

Pickford is looking to retain [his spot at the top of England’s goalkeeping pecking order](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordan-pickford/nationalmannschaft/spieler/130164) ahead of the World Cup in November.

Competition is coming from the likes of Aaron Ramsdale at Arsenal and Nick Pope at Newcastle.

### The latest

[Declan Carr](https://twitter.com/Declancarr96/status/1566046524022439938), a freelance sports journalist, commended Pickford for an ‘unreal’ spell during the second half of the game.

Meanwhile, another sports journalist, [Josh Bunting](https://twitter.com/Buntingfootball/status/1566047177159413763), said the ‘keeper’s ‘superb afternoon’ against the Reds demonstrated ‘why he’s England’s number one’.

And he agreed with Carr that he’d put on a ‘stunning’ exhibition of saves.

### The verdict

The stats suggest that Pickford should be a man of the match contender for the Toffees.

Indeed, his [SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/everton-liverpool/UsY) rating of 9.1/10 was the highest in either team by a considerable margin.

Pickford made eight saves over the course of the match and, impressively, seven of those came from shots inside the penalty area.

The [£100,000-per-week man](https://fbref.com/en/squads/d3fd31cc/2022-2023/wages/Everton-Wage-Details) may only have completed nine passes over the course of the game, but he did manage to pick out five accurate long balls too.
