# Everton: Noel Whelan drops Tariq Lamptey transfer claim

**Noel Whelan has dropped a very interesting transfer claim about whether Everton should go out and sign Tariq Lamptey.**

As per [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2327390/2021/01/18/haaland-ozil-football-soccer/) writer and transfer guru David Ornstein, the Goodison Park faithful, as well as Arsenal and Manchester City, are still interested in signing the former Chelsea right-back despite him recently putting pen to paper on a new deal at Brighton and Hove Albion.

When asked by [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/lets-not-rule-out-spurs-exclusive-pundit-reacts-to-ornsteins-brighton-transfer-reveal/) about who he can see Lamptey playing for in the future, Whelan claimed:

*“I think he is destined for a top-six club.*

*“I have loved Lamptey since he come onto the scene. He* *is very exciting, loads of energy, gets forward, gets in good areas, creates chances, box-to-box and has a goal in him. He is such an exciting young player.*

*“When you look at your Man Citys and Evertons (they) have right-backs coming to the back end of their careers, Lamptey would give them another option – and let’s not rule out Spurs.*

*“It is bizarre why Chelsea let him go. He is a very exciting player and even in the small window that we have seen of him, you can tell a lot of big clubs will be looking at him. They will want him because he brings so much.*

*“He gets into better positions than Wan Bissaka and he gives you more attacking presence.”*

### Lamptey would be a good signing by Everton

With Seamus Coleman getting on now at 32 years of age, the Merseyside club will surely have to look for a replacement for the Republic of Ireland international sooner rather than later.

Lamptey could well be that man, as at just 20-years-old, he still has plenty of time to grow and develop as a football player.

He has also shown the quality that he could bring to the Toffees in the Premier League in the 2020/21 term, winning no fewer than 5.7 of his duels while also averaging 1.7 interceptions, 1.5 tackles and 1.2 successful dribbles a game so far ([Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/lamptey-tariq/914691)).

The England U21 international could well be a perfect fit for the Blues, but they may face a lot of competition for his signature.
