# Everton: Blues still in the race to sign Conor Gallagher

**[Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) are still interested in making a move for Chelsea midfielder [Conor Gallagher](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/conor-gallagher/) at the end of the season, according to a new transfer update on the England international.**

### The Lowdown: Gallagher off in the summer?

The [four-time capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/conor-gallagher/profil/spieler/488362) Englishman was tipped to seal a move away from Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window, but he ended up remaining in west London despite late interest from the [Toffees, Crystal Palace and Newcastle](https://www.westlondonsport.com/chelsea/football-wls-everton-fc-make-approach-for-chelsea-man-but-hes-not-keen-newcastle-and-crystal-palace-also-interested).

Gallagher has failed to nail down a regular spot in Chelsea’s starting lineup this season, starting just [nine](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/375621/Show/Conor-Gallagher) league games, and it seems likely that he looks for a new challenge this summer after the Blues added even more new signings to potentially push him further down the pecking order.

### The Latest: Everton in the mix

According to [*The Evening Standard*](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-fc-summer-transfer-targets-priority-b1057459.html), Everton are among the clubs who are ‘interested’ in signing Gallagher once the transfer window eventually reopens.

Newcastle are seen as the ‘front-runners’ to sign the Englishman, however, while Palace are still keen on bringing him back to Selhurst Park.

### The Verdict: Exactly what Blues need

With Newcastle circling, and potentially finishing in the top four this season, it may not be easy for Everton to sign the [£50,000-a-week](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/chelsea-fc/payroll/) Gallagher, but they should do all they can to snap him up.

\[freshpress-quiz id=“418944″\]

He is an extremely talented young footballer – one who has been [hailed](https://www.thesportreview.com/article/chelsea-fc-news-conor-gallagher-tuchel/) as ‘extraordinary’ by Thomas Tuchel in the past – and he would add the midfield guile and end product that the Blues lack. He ranks highly amongst midfielders in Europe’s top leagues for a number of [key attacking metrics](https://fbref.com/en/players/c2731c10/Conor-Gallagher), sitting in the 90th percentile for expected goals (not including penalties).

Granted, a tally of [one goal and assist apiece](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/375621/Show/Conor-Gallagher) in 18 [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) appearances this season is disappointing but starting regularly for a team would change that, as [eight goals and five assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/conor-gallagher/alletore/spieler/488362) at Palace showed during his loan spell there.
