# Everton: Jordan Pickford criticised in defeat to West Ham

**[Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/west-ham-united-vs-everton/464844) journalist Lewis Jones was critical of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in [Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/)‘s 2-0 defeat away to West Ham on Saturday afternoon.**

### The Lowdown: Everton beaten yet again

[Frank Lampard](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/frank-lampard/)‘s side faced a massive [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) clash at the London Stadium as two of the division’s struggling teams locked horns.

It was yet another inept showing by Everton, who found themselves 2-0 down at half-time after a quickfire double from West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen.

The Toffees never recovered from that point on, falling to a defeat which leaves them rooted in the Premier League relegation zone.

### The Latest: Pickford receives criticism

Providing updates on [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/west-ham-united-vs-everton/464844)‘ live commentary during the game, Thomas was critical of Pickford’s involvement in the opening goal, in particular his positioning.

The Sky reporter stated:

> “A common theme of goals conceded by Everton recently have been just how deep their defence has been. Pickford summed that up there. He was almost behind his goal line when Zouma attacked the cross, it left him in no-mans land to deal with the loose ball.”

### The Verdict: Time for Lampard to go

The time has now surely come for Lampard to be sacked at Everton, with the 44-year-old looking completely out of his depth at the moment and the Blues not winning since [22nd October](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/everton/scores-fixtures/2022-10).

They are now in genuine danger of potentially getting cut adrift in the relegation fight, and a change of manager is required to stop what is now an inescapable rot.

Some might argue that Lampard is fortunate to still be in the role amid [reports](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11635565/Frank-Lampard-odds-favourite-bookies-sacked-Everton-lose-Southampton.html) casting doubt on his job security, but Saturday’s defeat was so lifeless for large periods that he appears to have lost the dressing room.

As for Pickford, it was an afternoon to forget, with [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/everton-west-ham-united/MY) noting that the England goalkeeper only found a team-mate six out of 14 attempted long balls.
