# Everton: Ruud Gullit doubts Carlo Ancelotti will be interested in Toffees role

**Former footballer Ruud Gullit does not believe that Everton will be successful in their reported pursuit of Carlo Ancelotti as the Toffees seek a new manager.**

Ancelotti was [sacked by Napoli](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50737095) amid a period of turmoil at the club, despite securing qualification to the Champions League knockout stages last night with a 4-0 victory – while Everton has been [mooted](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11671/11883490/carlo-ancelotti-sacked-by-napoli-amid-everton-and-arsenal-links) as his potential next move.

Meanwhile, Everton’s search for a new boss had earlier taken a setback on Tuesday when Shanghai SIPG boss [Vitor Pereira](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50735683) ruled himself out of the running for the role.

Speaking to [BeIN SPORTS](https://twitter.com/beINSPORTS_EN/status/1204526547765358592), Gullit doubted that a manager of Ancelotti’s calibre would be interested in the Everton job, suggesting that he is made for a club capable of playing in the Champions League.

He said: “I think Ancelotti belongs to a contender for the Champions League.

“He has been with the biggest clubs in Europe. And he won everywhere – Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain – these are big clubs.

“Therefore, it was a surprise for me \[that he went\] to Napoli, but \[they play in the Champions League\], but Everton doesn’t play \[in the\] Champions League, not even close to it at the moment.”

When looking at Ancelotti’s recent [job history](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/carlo-ancelotti/stationen/trainer/523), it would be fair to say that him turning up at Goodison Park would represent something of a departure from the kinds of roles he has taken over the years.

The current vacancy at Arsenal – which Gullit [proceeded](https://twitter.com/beINSPORTS_EN/status/1204526547765358592) to speculate on – was a destination that the Dutchman seemed more hopeful of despite the Gunners not reaching the Champions League for the [past three seasons](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-arsenal/pokalhistorie/verein/11).

His comments seemed to pour cold water over the idea that Ancelotti would take on the chance to turn Everton into a modern-day European giant, while suggesting that the Emirates Stadium may suit the Italian more.

Arsenal’s greater experience in European football’s top-tier competition certainly backs up that theory, though if Gullit was surprised by Ancelotti’s decision to seemingly take a backward step in taking over at Napoli, it can by no means be impossible that becoming Everton manager may yet be a position that intrigues the [one-time Premier League winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/carlo-ancelotti/erfolge/trainer/523) enough.
