# Everton: Sean Dyche ‘very interested’ in taking over as manager

**Sean Dyche is ‘very interested’ in becoming the new [Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) manager, according to [football reporter](https://twitter.com/DeanJonesSoccer) Dean Jones.**

### The Lowdown: Lampard sacked by Everton

After [44](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/frank-lampard/profil/trainer/60805) games at the helm, [Frank Lampard](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/frank-lampard/) was dismissed as manager of the Toffees on Monday, with Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against fellow relegation strugglers West Ham United proving to be the tipping point after a very disappointing first half of the season.

The former Chelsea boss leaves the Toffees [19th](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) table, and Everton chiefs are now tasked with finding a suitable replacement in order to avoid being relegated from the top flight for the first time in [72 years](https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjEmf7dluD8AhXJiFwKHecjD9IQFnoECE0QAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.goal.com%2Fen%2Fnews%2Fwhich-premier-league-clubs-have-never-been-relegated%2Fvpm1glnufz1x1q8ay98uw5w3u&usg=AOvVaw0rtpRuzZ696jdY9HmF_6ES).

### The Latest: Dyche interested in Everton job

Jones was speaking to [GIVEMESPORT](https://www.givemesport.com/88108072-everton-frank-lampard-sacked-sean-dyche-premier-league-manager-news-goodison-park) about the Toffees’ next managerial appointment, referencing Dyche’s firm interest in the vacancy amid [reports](https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjxgOrrluD8AhUMa8AKHZ9uDQsQvOMEKAB6BAgLEAE&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailymail.co.uk%2Fsport%2Ffootball%2Farticle-11665981%2FSean-Dyche-favourite-Evertons-manager-club-SACKED-Frank-Lampard.html&usg=AOvVaw1HZ4R3iQPFjFxA1aLNuBA2) that the 51-year-old is the favourite for the job.

The reporter stated: *“I can’t speak directly on behalf of Sean Dyche but I am told that he has been very interested in this job. To be honest, I think that he is probably the sort of profile they should be looking at to save that team.”*

### The Verdict: Right candidate?

Even though Everton have had a dreadful season so far, their defensive record has not been too bad, with their tally of [28](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/goals_conceded) goals conceded the joint-tenth lowest in the Premier League. This would provide an existing framework for Dyche, who has at times been [known to implement](https://talksport.com/football/463587/burnley-sean-dyche-defensive-reality-tactics-tottenham/) a more defensive style of play.

Hailed as ‘[brilliant](https://twitter.com/chris_sutton73/status/1352373953478717443?s=20&t=yJp0YqKz3o9MbrrexnJiQw)‘ by BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton in the past, the 51-year-old did a fantastic job on a shoestring budget with Burnley, remarkably finishing [seventh](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table/2017) in the 2017/18 season despite making a [net profit](https://talksport.com/football/338477/transfer-net-spend-every-premier-league-club-both-summer-and-winter-201718-windows/) in the two transfer windows prior to the conclusion of that campaign.

Considering that the Toffees are known to have [lost more than £100m](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/mar/29/everton-lose-more-than-100m-for-third-successive-year-but-avoid-sanctions) for three successive years, the likelihood is that Dyche would not have a great deal to spend if he comes to Goodison Park, but he has a proven track record of being able to get a tune out of teams assembled at a relatively low cost.
