# Everton: Toffees hammer Gylfi Sigurdsson

**Everton supporters were left unimpressed during their 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the Premier League today, with Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson receiving the majority of criticism for his performance.**

Sigurdsson, who started alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure in central midfield for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, proved an ineffective figure at times – with one supporter claiming he ‘offers nothing’ whilst a fellow Toffee branded him a ‘liability’.

It was a tough 90 minutes for Everton, who were seeking to climb back up the Premier League table against a Magpies side who were on a terrible run of form and hadn’t won once in their previous Premier League nine games.

Indeed, Everton could have grabbed a top five spot this afternoon with victory against Newcastle and kept up the chase for Europe – but three dropped points has thwarted that opportunity at least for now.

Two goals from Callum Wilson condemned them to defeat at Goodison Park – with Sigurdsson attracting particular criticism as these Toffees voiced their displeasure with his ‘pathetic’ display.
