# Everton: Yerry Mina eyed by Napoli

**Napoli could move for Everton centre-back Yerry Mina in January, according to [Il Mattino](https://www.ilmattino.it/sport/sscnapoli/napoli_mercato_difensore_bremer-6390837.html) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/everton-star-list-clubs-january-options-need-opportunity-make-transfer-happen/)).**

### The lowdown

It was [confirmed last week](https://football-italia.net/official-napoli-sell-manolas-to-olympiacos/) that centre-back Kostas Manolas was leaving the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona to return to Olympiacos. That leaves Napoli, who are [four points off the top](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/serie-a/tabelle/wettbewerb/IT1/saison_id/2021) of Serie A, with only Kalidou Koulibaly, Amir Rrahmani and Juan Jesus available at centre-back.

Everton could already be set to lose one defensive [mainstay](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-digne/leistungsdaten/spieler/126664) in January in the form of Lucas Digne. According to a report from The Sunday People (via [Metro](https://metro.co.uk/2021/12/19/chelsea-newcastle-leicester-eye-transfer-moves-everton-defender-lucas-digne-15793303/?ito=newsnow-feed)), three Premier League clubs are interested in the left-back after his falling out with Rafael Benitez.

### The latest

As per [Il Mattino](https://www.ilmattino.it/sport/sscnapoli/napoli_mercato_difensore_bremer-6390837.html) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/everton-star-list-clubs-january-options-need-opportunity-make-transfer-happen/)), Napoli have drawn up a list of potential replacements for Manolas, and Mina’s name is included.

Luciano Spaletti’s side are in a position to do a loan deal, having cleared the Greek defender’s [€100,000-per-week](https://football-italia.net/official-napoli-sell-manolas-to-olympiacos/) salary off the books.

### The verdict

Losing Mina would be a big blow to Everton. The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland has said that the Colombian has become [‘increasingly important to the side’s hopes’](https://twitter.com/Paddy_Boyland/status/1449992670659678211) of success, while ex-Toffees player Michael Ball dubbed him [‘fantastic’](https://www.goodisonnews.com/2021/10/05/michael-ball-waxes-lyrical-of-everton-defender-yerry-mina/).

Indeed, the 27-year-old is arguably the best centre-back at the club, boasting an overall duel success of [79%](https://www.sofascore.com/player/yerry-mina/360396) this season compared to 67% for [Michael Keane](https://www.sofascore.com/player/michael-keane/110846) and 56% for [Ben Godfrey](https://www.sofascore.com/player/ben-godfrey/754698) and [Mason Holgate](https://www.sofascore.com/player/mason-holgate/781544).

However, even if they can ward off Napoli’s interest in January, the defender’s future at Goodison Park remains uncertain, with the end of his contract in [June 2023](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yerry-mina/profil/spieler/289446) ticking nearer.
