# Exclusive: Carlton Palmer says Osaze Urhoghide has to start for Sheffield Wednesday

**Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer has told [The Transfer Tavern](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/) in an exclusive interview that Osaze Urhoghide has to start for the Owls next season if he remains at the club.**

The 20-year-old’s contract is close to expiring, but Wednesday ([via The Star](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/owls-confirm-talks-as-osaze-urhoghides-sheffield-wednesday-future-hangs-in-the-balance-3243952)) have confirmed that they have offered him a new deal.

Urhoghide is also said to be attracting a lot of interest from both the Premier League and Championship; however, [it is understood that he is still considering](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/owls-confirm-talks-as-osaze-urhoghides-sheffield-wednesday-future-hangs-in-the-balance-3243952) the Yorkshire club’s offer despite this.

And should he decide to extend his stay at Hillsborough in the end, Palmer feels he has to be one of the first names on the teamsheet next term.

*“Certainly at 20, you would expect him in League One now to be playing regular football,”* the ex-Wednesday player exclusively told **TT**. *“This is where he gets his experience and I’m sure he will do under Darren \[Moore\].*

*“Darren was a very good centre-back, so he’s only going to learn from Darren. This is perfect for him.*

*“He’s one of them that’s got to start.”*

After some initial difficulties, Urhoghide did [eventually break into Wednesday’s senior squad](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/osaze-urhoghide/leistungsdaten/spieler/491738) and starting XI, so it would not be a surprise to see Moore stick with the central defender in League One.

The Owls, of course, still need to tie him down to a new deal if they are to even have him available for the new season.
