# Exclusive: Pundit claims Oxlade-Chamberlain can still perform in Premier League

In an exclusive interview with **[The Transfer Tavern](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/)**, former Wigan Athletic manager Paul Jewell has claimed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could still perform for a team like Southampton in the Premier League.

Liverpool are [reportedly](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/dortmund-pone-ojos-oxlade-camberlain-liverpool-klopp-haaland-sancho-20210502.html) willing to let Oxlade-Chamberlain leave this summer with the Reds looking to get £17 million for the midfielder, and Borussia Dortmund are the early favourites to sign him.

The 27-year old impressed at Southampton when they were in League One which persuaded Arsenal to sign him back in 2011, and a move to Liverpool came in 2017 with him since winning both the Premier League and Champions League.

Speaking on if Oxlade-Chamberlain could perform at a club like Southampton and if his injuries could hold him back, Jewell exclusively told **The Transfer Tavern**:

*“There’s no doubt about it he could do it for Southampton, he’s just been unlucky with injuries has Oxlade-Chamberlain which has been unfortunate for him and I think it was against Roma when he got a really bad knee injury.*

*“That would have been really hard for him to come back from but he’s still young enough so I’m sure he could do a job in most Premier League teams.”*

The Liverpool winger missed their Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid because of a [knee injury](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jul/18/alex-oxlade-chamberlain-out-for-season-knee-injury-liverpool) that was sustained against Roma in the semi-final.

Since he joined Liverpool, Oxlade-Chamberlain has [missed a total of 493 days](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/verletzungen/spieler/143424) through several long and short term injuries.
