# Exclusive: Pundit feels Gabriel Jesus could leave Manchester City

**Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus could be allowed to depart the Etihad Stadium this summer, according to Steve Howey.**

The Brazilian headed to the Premier League from Palmeiras in a deal worth [£27million](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11679/10521519/manchester-city-sign-gabriel-jesus-for-27m-from-palmeiras) five years ago.

He has gone on to score [50 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-jesus/leistungsdaten/spieler/363205) in English football’s top flight, but Howey believes the time may be right for Jesus to seek pastures new.

Following the [departure](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57308898) of Sergio Aguero to Barcelona, having seen his [contract expire](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/manchester-city/sergio-aguero-contract-transfer-b1824119.html), City boss Pep Guardiola has set his sights on signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

The club reportedly made a [£100million bid](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/12337836/harry-kane-man-city-make-100m-transfer-bid-for-tottenham-striker) for the England captain last month, but he remains on Spurs’ books.

City are expected to return with another bid for Kane, who stated his [intention to leave](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/12309404/harry-kane-again-tells-tottenham-he-wants-to-leave-as-manchester-city-manchester-united-chelsea-lie-in-wait) Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the end of last season.

Should the transfer go through, Howey feels Jesus could be deemed to be dispensible.

The former City defender exclusively told The Transfer Tavern: *“When Jesus has had his opportunities, he hasn’t set it on fire. I think he’s done well but City need somebody to come in for Aguero. They need a goalscorer.*

*“Jesus is a very good player but he’s not Aguero and he’s not Harry Kane. He could be surplus to requirements.*

*“It will be interesting to see what happens with Jesus. They could sell him and recoup some of that money.”*
