# Exclusive: Steve Howey urges Philippe Coutinho to consider Leicester City move

**Steve Howey has urged Brendan Rodgers to take advantage of Barcelona’s financial crisis and reunite with Philippe Coutinho at Leicester City.**

Barcelona are looking to sell a host of players after exceeding La Liga’s [wage limit](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/barcelona-espbarcelona/story/4415644/la-liga-president-warns-barcelona-to-reduce-wage-bill-or-risk-lionel-messi-contract). It has resulted in the Spanish giants being [unable](https://www.insider.com/barcelona-cannot-register-messi-or-new-signings-amid-financial-crisis-2021-7) to register new signings, including the likes of Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay, or officially tie Lionel Messi down to a new contract.

Coutinho is among those Ronald Koeman’s side are keen to [offload](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/philippe-coutinho-liverpool-barcelona-price-20243821), with the Brazil international struggling since moving to the Nou Camp from Liverpool for [£142million](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jan/06/philippe-coutinho-join-barcelona-142m-deal-liverpool) three years ago.

A loss of form and host of injuries have resulted in Coutinho being restricted to just [90 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/80444).

But Howey, who featured for Leicester during his playing days, believes Coutinho would be able to rediscover his best form by working for a familiar face in Rodgers.

The Northern Irishman was in charge of Liverpool when Coutinho was at Anfield and Howey feels the creative midfielder would be a hit at the King Power Stadium.

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, Howey said: *“I think going there could be great for him and it could be good for Leicester.”*
