Former Tottenham favourite Paul Stewart still isn’t convinced by Matt Doherty.
Signed by Jose Mourinho last summer, the right-back endured a difficult first season in north London and found himself fighting for a starting place with Serge Aurier.
Should Tottenham sign Madueke?
Doherty featured heavily under the former Spurs boss but couldn’t produce the same form that saw him become one of the most dangerous attacking full-backs in the Premier League for Wolves.
It looked like Doherty’s spell at the club could be cut short earlier this summer, but the arrival of his former manager Nuno Espirito Santo could give him the necessary boost.
With Spurs’ other right-back Serge Aurier on the transfer list, the ex-Wolves man is in likely to be first-choice, at least for the opening weeks of the campaign.
But the Republic of Ireland defender hasn’t managed to win over Stewart, who exclusively told The Transfer Tavern:
“I’m not really convinced about him. I just don’t see Doherty doing it. When they got him, that was underwhelming.”
