# Liverpool: Fans want to sign Memphis Depay

**Memphis Depay showed his support for Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk whilst playing for Lyon in Ligue 1 on Sunday night.**

Van Dijk, of course, was forced off injured against Everton in the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park. He has since [needed surgery](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/54590771), and he faces a long spell on the sidelines as a result. As the Netherlands international is one of, if not the best centre-back in the world, this is no doubt a blow to the Reds.

His compatriot Depay was in action for Lyon against Monaco in the French top flight at the weekend, with his side winning 4-1. The [£40.5m-valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/memphis-depay/marktwertverlauf/spieler/167850) 26-year-old (Transfermarkt) opened the scoring, and whilst celebrating he showed [a T-shirt](https://www.givemesport.com/1611272-memphis-depay-reveals-tshirt-message-for-liverpools-virgil-van-dijk-after-scoring-for-lyon) underneath his Lyon jersey. On it was a message that read: “Virgil. Stay strong my brother.”

This of course attracted the attention of the Reds supporters, and it seems that they would like to sign him a result. They took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
