Fantasy Premier League Picks – van Persie to Profit from Arsenal Creativity

Tom Jones 16 October 2009, 19:17 2 minutes read

Robin van PersieThis weekend sees some interesting encounters in the Premier League, and Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City will all be looking to keep up their title efforts. After Cesc Fabregas, Didier Drogba and David James all picked up good points in the last set of fixtures, which players will do well this weekend? Here are four suggestions:

Forward:
Robin van Persie – After putting 6 past Blackburn Rovers last time out, Arsenal are likely to be at it again when they face Birmingham City on Saturday. Cesc Fabreags won’t come cheap, but he’s been setting up goals for fun for his Arsenal teammates who are likely to prosper. Robin van Persie may be a shrewd purchase as he looks set to lead the Gunners’ front line against a struggling Birmingham and can latch onto Fabregas’ through balls.

Midfield:
David Dunn – A tasty Lancashire derby between Blackburn Rovers and Burnley is set to take place on Sunday and it is likely to be a close game. Burnley are yet to score away from home this season though, and with David Dunn coming into a rich vein of form I can see him nicking a goal in a 1-0 win, and with Dunn on penalties he is always a good shout to pop up with a goal.

Defence:
Sylvain Distin – Everton are up against Wolves on Saturday and I think that they will continue their recent revival and rediscover the winning feeling after a draw against Stoke City prior to the international break. Their defence looks more solid and a clean sheet is a real possibility, with defender Sylvain Distin currently a definite starter and he is yet to pick up a yellow card this season.

Goalkeeper:
Mark Schwarzer – Although Fulham have struggled this season, I think that their ability to defend as a team will help them concede few goals over the course of the season, especially at home. Hull City are yet to win away this season and they will struggle to find a way past experienced goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer playing for a Fulham team who are hard to break down.

I have been a Newcastle Fan for a number of years now. Favourite player has to be the Toon legend that is Alan Shearer. Hoping that Newcastle bounce straight back into the Premiership even though i am quite enjoying them winning most weeks for a change. Best football memory is England 4-1 Netherlands at Euro '96.
