In the summer, one area Roy Hodgson is almost certain to strengthen at Crystal Palace is attack.
And when looking at the season one of their former players in Dwight Gayle is currently having, re-signing the 28-year-old to address the above does not sound like the worst idea.
Before being sold to Newcastle United back in 2016 for £10.8m (Transfermarkt), Gayle certainly had his struggles at Selhurst Park.
But since then, the Englishman has gone on to become a more mature centre-forward and has shown as much in the Championship with West Brom this campaign.
Gayle is one of the division’s leading goalscorers with 23 goals to his name and has been an absolute threat for the Baggies with his pace and ability to run in behind.
In a Crystal Palace team, who look really good on the counter-attack with Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend, the Newcastle loanee could be a very good fit for Hodgson’s side.
Ultimately, with Christian Benteke a shadow of his former self and and Michy Batshuayi expected to return to Chelsea at the end of his loan spell at Selhurst Park, the Eagles desperately need to sign a new frontman in the summer.
And Gayle might just be one of the best options available for Hodgson.
