Leeds United are going to have to make improvements to their squad in the summer regardless of the division they find themselves playing their football in next season.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side should be looking to use this weekend’s match against Ipswich Town as the perfect tune-up for their play-off campaign and try and end their terrible form just in time.
Obtaining Premier League football next year would make Leeds a much more attractive proposition for players to consider joining, including the likes of Elvis Rexhbecaj.
Bild recently stated that the Whites would be prepared to splash out €8million (£7m) to acquire him from Wolfsburg.
However, if they were able to land him in the summer, what would the potential consequences be for Leeds to consider? Let’s take a look below.
Orta secures perfect Leeds addition
Rexhbecaj would be a perfect addition for Leeds this summer as he can potentially help bolster the side in key areas of the pitch.
Naturally a central midfielder, the Kosovan can also play comfortably as a left-back, which is a position that needs a serious look at in the offseason as Bielsa’s side have had issues with injuries in that area of the squad.
The 21-year-old is technically astute and is a strong tackler of the ball and has shown plenty of promise in his breakthrough season with Wolfsburg, having made 22 appearances, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the process.
Alioski’s future in doubt
Ezgjan Alioski has spent much of the Championship season playing as a left-back for Bielsa’s side, however, Rexhbecaj could potentially make his future at the club appear in doubt.
With the Whites likely to look for new additions on the left-hand side and with Barry Douglas still to come back, Bielsa could look to use the Kosovan in that position instead of the Macedonian putting the 27-year-old’s place in the side in real jeopardy.
