Tottenham Hotspur might have a Champions League final to look ahead to, however, this summer should be one of their busiest for a number of years.
Spurs still have a number of areas of the squad that they need to address to take them to the next level and put them in contention of being able to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title in the future.
And, according to a rumour in France, it appears Mauricio Pochettino’s side have identified a hugely exciting talent that could help them to do exactly that if they manage to bring him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Le Parisien are claiming Spurs are interested in signing Olympique de Lyonnais’ Nabil Fekir this summer as they look to add more creativity to their squad in the final third of the pitch.
But, as with every transfer, there are add on effects that such an arrival could cause, so what are potential consequences Tottenham will need to consider if the France international joins them? Let’s take a closer look below…
Eriksen Replacement Secured
Much has been said about Christian Eriksen’s future at the club recently. Will he stay at the club and extend his deal (Tottenham appear to think he will if Goal is to be believed)? Or will he look to enter the final 12 months of his deal and force Tottenham’s hand and look to sell him with Real Madrid thought to be keen on the Denmark international? AS seem to think he is heading on his way to the Santiago Bernabeu anyway.
And, if the latter of the scenarios were to come to fruition, bringing Fekir to Spurs would instantly solve that potential problem before it arises.
The France international is extremely useful in front of goal and would help to provide a regular source of goals and creativity from the middle of the park, limiting the void the Great Dane could end up leaving and is arguably a greater threat going forward.
Levy Breaks The Bank
Let’s be honest, we all love a bargain when we can get our hands on one. However, Daniel Levy is one man that appears to try and make them happen all the time and sticks to his guns in negotiations.
Fekir may have just over 12 months left on his deal at Lyon and it does not seem as though he will be extending it any time soon (L’Eqipe via Get French Football News), however, the 25-year-old is still likely going to cost Spurs a pretty penny if they want to secure his services this summer.
It would not be a surprise if the French outfit would demand more than the club’s current transfer record of £42million, the sum of money the north London outfit splashed out on Ajax’s Davinson Sanchez in 2017 (Guardian).
It might be a lot of money, however, one would have to feel that Fekir is a player worthy of breaking the bank for.
Tottenham fans, what do you think the potential consequences are for Spurs if you sign Fekir? Let us know below!
