This article forms part of our Profit Players feature series, which is where Football Transfer Tavern takes a look at how well a player has fared since being signed or sold, using statistical figures and statements from pundits to prove how good of a deal the club managed to achieve.
Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – the names you’d expect to frequent the higher end of the Premier League goalscoring charts each season.
While those names are all visible when you look at BBC Sport’s top 20 goal scorers for the 2019-20 season so far, there is currently another name among them which you may not have expected to see before the campaign started last month.
Norwich City’s Teemu Pukki, the Finland international who last season topped the Championship goalscorers charts with 29 goals (none of which were penalties), has found the net six times already this season – two of which have come against Liverpool and Manchester City, it’s worth noting.
The 29-year-old also dazzled football fans across the country with his emphatic display against Newcastle United last month, scoring a stunning hat-trick as the Canaries beat Steve Bruce’s side 3-1 at Carrow Road – the first time the same player has scored three times in one Premier League match for the East Anglian club in 26 years, per premierleague.com.
So far this season, Pukki has averaged 3.4 shots on goal and 1 key pass per game, via WhoScored, which has now attributed to his predicted value in the transfer market rising to £8.1m (via Transfermarkt).
With that considered, the fact that Norwich actually picked Pukki up on a free transfer last summer makes him one of the most profitable players in the top-flight at this moment in time, should he keep up this scintillating form.
How much do you reckon Pukki is worth in today’s market? Let us know by leaving a comment below!
